Prek Toal Birth Sanctury

Kulent Elephant Forest

In the foothills of Kulen Mountain, lies the Bos Thom Community Forest, 1100 acres of protected forest inhabited by the former elephants of Angkor. For 22 years, these elephants have given rides to visitors in the temples of the world heritage site. Today, they roam free in their natural habitat and are living testimony of a changing world.With 75 remaining captive elephants in Cambodia, the protection of this amazing animal is more critical than ever. APOPO Visitor Center

APOPO Visitor Center, which is in charming village next to Wat Thmei on the way to Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, is a global non-profit organization that trains African giant pouched rats (fondly nicknamed ‘HeroRATs’) to save lives by detecting landmines and tuberculosis in economically challenged countries. Discover the issue of landmines and the clearance process, meet the deminers from the minefield and experience a live demonstration of Mine Detection Rats.

Angkor National Museum

Angkor National Museum – The Legend Revealed During the Golden Era of the Khmer Kingdom, one of the ancient civilizations of this world was being created. It was the origin of Khmer art, culture, and architecture. These great inventions became one of the few wonders of the world that still amaze people throughout generations that still hold a great impact in present Cambodia society. Angkor National Museum takes pride in revealing the royal historical path of this Golden Era of the Khmer Kingdom through state of the art multimedia technology to provide visitors a full pictorial story of the legend for easy comprehension. Angkor National Museum will take its visitors through the journey back in time from the creation to the highest point of Khmer civilization. War Museum

The War Museum in Siem Reap is the only War Museum in Cambodia. It offers visitors a unique and insightful view of the perils that Cambodia faced during the last 3 decades of the 20th century. It gives also visitors an excellent opportunity to learn more about what actually occured during Cambodia’s ‘war years’.It has a unique collection, you will also be able to see war machines like the tank T-54,  the jet fighter aircraft MiG-19, the helicopter Mil Mi-8 and the field artillery gun 85-mm divisional gun D-44. Before used in Cambodia, some of these war machines have even seen action during World War II. Among the collection there are also many sorts of landmines and rare photographs from the defined period of time in Cambodia.

Cambodia Landmine Museum

The Landmine Museum was founded by ex-child soldier Aki Ra as a way to tell the world about the horrors landmines had infilcted on his native Cambodia. He used the proceed to clear landmines wherever he could find them. In the process of clearing small, remote villages, he began bringing home wounded and orphaned children that he and his wife raised as their own, along side their own children. Today the Museum not only tells Aki Ra’s unique history and the history of landmines in Cambodia, but it is also home to over two dozen abandoned, orphaned or destitute children. All are cared for, housed, fed, educated and given a future they would otherwise never have had.

Wat Thmey Killing Field

The Killing Fields are a number of sites in Cambodia where collectively more than a million people were killed and buried by the Khmer Rouge regime (the Communist Party of Kampuchea) during its rule of the country from 1975 to 1979, immediately after the end of the Cambodian Civil War (1970–1975). The mass killings are widely regarded as part of a broad state-sponsored genocide (the Cambodian genocide). Analysis of 20,000 mass grave sites by the DC-Cam Mapping Program and Yale University indicates at least 1,386,734 victims of execution. Estimates of the total deaths resulting from Khmer Rouge policies, including death from disease and starvation, range from 1.7 to 2.5 million out of a 1975 population of roughly 8 million. In 1979, Vietnam invaded Democratic Kampuchea and toppled the Khmer Rouge regime, ending the genocide. The Cambodian journalist Dith Pran coined the term “killing fields” after his escape from the regime.

Kompong Phluk Floating Village

This half day trip will take you into the heart of mangrove forests on the margins of the Tonle Sap Lake to the incredible stilt village of Kompong Phluk and Kompong Khleang. You will experience the traditiona and peacefull life of the fishing communities here. If water levels are low, we can take a canoe ride deep into the mangrove forests to explore further into the mangroves of Tonle Sap!Kampong Phluk is a cluster of three villages of stilted houses built within the floodplain of the Tonle Sap about 16 km southeast of Siem Reap. The villages are primarily Khmer and have about 3,000 inhabitants between them. Flooded mangrove forest surrounds the area and is home to a variety of wildlife including crab-eating macaques.

Phnom Kulen National Park

A playground for locals, Phnom Kulen (literally Mountain of the Lychees) is a gorgeous day out. The main attraction is the waterfalls at the top of Kulen Mountain and it’s also a great picnic spot; well set up in Cambodian style with hammocks and shelters to keep you shaded from the sun. It’s around 1.5-2 hours drive from Siem Reap and if you go all the way to the top by van or car, you need to get there early, as the road is one-way traffic only.The birthplace of the ancient Khmer empire, it is said that it was at Phnom Kulen that King Jayavarman II proclaimed Cambodia’s independence from Java.

Artisans D' Angkor

Like Khmer Ceramics & Fine Arts Centre, Artisans Angkor is a company aiming to revive traditional Khmer craftsmanship while giving Cambodians opportunities. In this case, they aim to help young people living in rural areas.Their handicraft workshop is located at Stung Thmey Street. They’re open from 7:30 am – 6:30 pm daily.Browse their beautifully-made handicrafts, including silk scarves, silk apparel, jewellery, tableware, and textiles. Their silk farm is located at Pouk, 20 minutes from Siem Reap Town. There’s a free shuttle service if you pre-book which operates on weekdays from their workshop at 9:30 am and 1:30 pm.
